Offer 24/7 Advising Help
Today's students expect to be able to plan and conduct much of their business online. Traditional advising--waiting for your once-a-semester specified day to work on course plans--does not fit the pace of this online generation. When much of advising is information based, it just makes sense to make as much of that information available online and ensure that it's accessible all day, all year.
Once you configure MyCourseList for your institution, students can select majors and minors and then map out their courses for every semester until they graduate. Freshmen can plan their final semester before they even attend their first class.
Create Schedules in a Snap
Accurate and complete course schedules usually rest on a complex mix of rules and course cycles. Before you can confidently plan to take a course two or three semesers hence, you need to know whether you have met the prerequisites for it (and then check when those prerequisite courses are offered), check whether there are any corequisites, then determine whether the class will actually be offered when you hope it will be. Unless an institution offers every course in every semester, long-term planning needs to take account of course rotations as well as prerequisite rules. With our "One-Click Schedule" technology, in just a second or two students and advisors can generate a full four-year graduation plan that accounts for all your institution's curriculum rules and course rotations.
Anticipate Faculty Loads
We didn't just stop at letting students plan their future courses. When a student plans to take a class three years hence, we let you know. Administrators can tell at a glance where they might need to add more sections years in advance. We'll show you how many students plan to take each of your classes in the next four years. You can also organize these projections by major and minor.
Create a Virtual Advising Folder
Leave notes for yourself or your advisee with details or reminders from your advising meetings. You can also upload documents that can be securely accessed by you and your advisee.
Increase Advising Efficiency
When students who have used MyCourseList come to advising meetings, your time is no longer spent wondering when courses are offered or scratching out tentative degree plans. Some students will even bring a specially formatted printout of their coures list to your advising session. Faculty have access to each student's online course plan, and can make changes during an advising meeting if necessary. Faculty can quantify their advising efforts by seeing their total number of advisees and the average level of competion of their advisees' schedules.
Reduce Independent Studies
How many resource-sapping independent studies are generated at your institution by advising mistakes or poor student planning? Typically, a senior arrives at his or her final year and realizes that a required course won't be offered for at least another 12 months.
MyCourseList lets students specify their graduation date, which results in a course calendar list that shows every time required and elective courses are offered between now and graduation. MyCourseList can help your students catch those essential courses.
Engage Your Prospects
You can engaged potential recruits to your institution by letting them access the MyCourseList system and decide what course plans suit them best. Freshmen can make intelligent decisions about what courses they take from their very first semester.
This feature is especially valuable to transfer students. These students can pull up a required-course list, check off courses they are transferring in, and then see exactly what classes are required to finish their degree and know in what semesters they'll be offered.
Establish Your Brand
Every page in your college's MyCourseList site contains your logo in the top left corner, and is identified by your own unique subdomain (i.e. www.mycollege.mycourselist.com) so that you can link directly to it without referencing other institutions.
